The last couple of weeks have been a stark reminder to me of human mortality as I have heard devastating news of great inspiring teachers like Gillian pass on, an individual who was not only young and vibrant but passionate about seeing her students thrive and become the best that they can be. I recall a message she sent me just a couple of months ago asking me to put together some self esteem material for her girls and I remember thinking to myself, this is one teacher who is concerned about the holistic wellbeing of the young women that are passing through her hands, passionate about her mandate in this life to fill the world with love as she understood that when you do not love and respect yourself, it is difficult to truly love others and fulfil your purpose successfully in this life. Little did I know that that Facebook conversation was the last that I would ever hear of her on this earth again. That was just one of several lives that I know have moved on to the next level in the last couple of weeks. May their souls rest in peace.
So what have all these sudden or permature deaths taught me? Our days on this earth are numbered and it is vital to make each day count! You really do not have time to spend wallowing in self pity and sorrow and allowing the hurdles and challenges you face make you paralysed. Time is too short to hold on to that grudge or anger over some material or emotional incident that already is in the past. That person or you could be taken away suddenly, whiçh always leaves a whole load of regret and unresolved issues that neither party can gain communicative closure over anymore.
So as I listened to our Chisi High School song, fill the world with love, I was reminded of the greatest commandment that Jesus spoke about, to love your neighbour as you love yourself and love God Almighty with all your heart soul and mind as it is only through this can you truly love yourself as God has an unconditional love for you which does not look at your status, your looks or what you can do for him and this in turn allows you to love others in that way. The apostle Paul further reiterates this in the book of 1 Corinthians 13 that of all the gifts and skills and talents that one can have, the greatest of these is LOVE. Love is described as being patient, kind, not self seeking, keeps no record of wrong, it is not boastful it is not proud. It does not envy and is not easily angered. It does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes always perseveres.
I wanted to share this song with you as its words have interestingly formed a positive simple platform in my own life, to be brave, and strong and true and to fill the world with love my whole life through! If everyone in the world grasped this concept and ran with it we would put the world to right! We can only do it one person at a time, be the light of the world as we have our switch turned on first! So wherever you are in your life right now, whatever situation you are faced with, there is nothing that LOVE cannot begin to put right! LOVE NEVER FAILS!
